From the 'Collection Couvreur'

Click for enlarged, high resolution view... Among the most famous "Herb books" of which the "Collection Couvreur" may take great pride of, the "Cruydt boek"  of Rembert Dodoens (Dodonnaeus in Latin) is one of the most beautifully illustrated. The text is in ancient Flemish *.

Parmi les herbiers les plus célèbres dont peut d'enorgueillir la Collection Couvreur, les "Cruydt boek" de Rembert Dodoens (Dodonnée en français, Dodonnaeus en latin) médecin et botaniste  malinois ayant vécu de 1516 à 1585 est un des plus beaux. Le texte est en ancien flamand **.

* Cruydt: flemish word litteraly meaning "spices" and other herbs used for cooking and improving the conservation of food; by extension, it also means medicinal herbs (note that the spelling is ancient flemish). 

** Cruydt: mot flamand signifiant littéralement "épices" et autres herbes utilisées pour la préparation et la conservation des aliments; par extension, il signifie aussi "plantes médicinales" (notez que l'orthographe est celle du flamand ancien)
